Caro's training is going slowly, after she had a sore on her foot, and was off sport for 2 weeks.
She did a 30km ride on Sunday 22nd, which was great. However the thought of having to do 3 x's more that amount is rather daunting!!
She is going to the Gym, and riding stationary bikes for 1 hour, every 2nd day - so lets hope that will be enough.
She needs LOTS and LOTS of encouragement along the way!!
Watch out for the +/-11 groovy SADD cyclists, who will be standing out in the masses with their colorful outfits.
Supporters who want to wear SADD t shirts and Caps, along the route, to please get hold of Charlotte.
Thanks to Honeygirl from Brandhouse's "Drive Dry" Initiative for their sponsorship of the outfits!

Hi Charlotte
I will sponsor Caro R1 per every km of the Argus that she completes.
Does that come to R104 if she completes it? Let me know when and how to pay my promise.
Hope the weather is good and the ride is enjoyable. All the best Lesley Shackleton (PAID R120 - THANK YOU LESLEY!)
Thanks so much Lesley! No the route is 109 kms this year!! They have added Boyes Drive - damn - ANOTHER hill- to avoid the road works on Main Rd Kalk Bay.There will be "blood sweat and tears" but I will try and make the whole distance.
Do I have to do it in the qualifying time to get the cash - or can I carry on all night too?(I am a VERY slow cyclist - and will rely on my husband to push me up the big hills!)Thanks for the support and best wishes,Caro

ARGUS 8th March 2009 RACE PHOTOS +EXPERIENCES & RESULTS FOR EACH PERSON
Perfect weather for a week before, and a week after the race - but on the day?? A GALE!!! Winds 60-120 km's!!
Wendy Counihan- Started nice and early.Wind blew a toilet over, and the blue liquid went over her to start with! She was then blown over together with 40 other cyclists 100m after the start. After another 100 m she was blown over again with about 30 other cyclists.Feeling very vulnerable and battered she decided to pull out.Well tried Wends - it was a good decision. Thanks for the support.
Guy Smit.Left 1.30 hours late becoz of the wind. Raced like crazy to catch up with his friends who left 30 mins earlier than him.Had an excellent race - didn't fall off once.Caught up to friends and finished in 4.30 hrs.Well done and thanks!
Caro Smit Left at 10.45 (1.30 hours late becoz of the wind.)We were not allowed to cycle to start with, but had to push our bikes for 1st 400 m.Into the howling wind the whole time, and had a bit of a helping push from Mike every now and then!Lovely tail wind til Kommetjie. On Chapmans Peak was nearly blown off the Mountain by a cross wind.I had a burly Official grab me and my bike(which was flying horizontally) and pull me against the Cliff face.Battled our way thro the wind until Hout Bay -90 km's, when they stopped the whole race due to worstening conditions.I was still very strong and so was very disappointed to have the race stopped.Great race.Fun - and I was prepared enough. The 6 or so Goo's certainly helped! See you next year!
Mike Smit.Left at 10.45 (1.30 hours late becoz of the wind.)We were not allowed to cycle to start with, but had to push our bikes for 1st 400 m. Loved the race -cycling with The Little Red Devil, and his 4 pink clad winged angels, plus all sorts of crazy and friendly people!Took lots of photo's.Pushed Caro up Boyes Drive, hill before Smitwinkelsbaai, and Chapmans Peak.Very disappointed to be stopped at Hout Bay.Very proud of my wife!
Carl Botha "HOW NOT TO DO THE ARGUS"
You start at ten thirty instead of 9.06 You then politely suggest that because of the wind a day sitting at a roadside cafe drinking beer should be considered and have your bright idea dismissed. Then give your brand new bike to your daughter to ride and you get on the old one which has 6 less gears and proceed to push your daughter up the hills as is evidenced in the picture.
What you then do is to ride down Chapman's and not see your daughter at the bottom because the paramedics are coming by ambulance to take her to hospital. You then battle it out to the finish line which you don't recognize because the wind has blown the arch away. As a final gesture you then pay for the new bike to have a new wheel fitted--- and you give the bike as a present to your' roastie 'covered daughter to console her-, and you return home with no medal because you gave yours to you daughter your old 6 gear less bike you hair ruffled by the wind but with a nice SADD cycling shirt-.Thanks for letting us do it for SADD
